Always LOVE coming home to this little girl :) |
After getting home, we had quite a weekend ahead of us. Joe and I are both Catholic so our wedding will be held at the Catholic Church that Joe grew up going too. The Deacon that will be marrying us had asked us to do an Engaged Encounter weekend, so after much planning, this was the weekend we chose. It was conveniently being held at St. Ann's so we did not have far to travel. After getting up early Saturday morning, we were ready for a long day ahead of us! The day started at 7:45 with a prayer, then the session began. There were two married couples and a priest that put on the weekend, and they cover topics and talk about their own personal experiences to start off the discussions on the topic. The topics include things like communication, life giving, stewardship, finances, intimacy, etc. so it pretty much covers every aspect of life. After the couple finishes up talking about the topic, you have a list of questions and you write about your concerns, wishes, and ideas of how it will work in your lives together. They you get to read what your significant other writes and discuss to make sure that you are on the same page or you can be in the near future. After lunch and more discussion, it was time for church and then we finished up the day around 7. We then headed to dinner with Joe's mom and headed to bed early so that we were ready for day two.
The second day was much like the first and we finished up with a betrothal letter. This is a letter that you got extra time to write to your significant other and it was the nicest thing I have ever read. Having all of these writings will make it wonderful to look back at when we want to read it in the future! This is something that I would recommend to anyone getting married because it was such a great experience. Although we may not have learned anything earth shattering during the weekend, it validated everything we knew and believed in eachother. I cannot wait to walk down the aisle and marry the man of my dreams.
After we finished up Sunday, we headed to Christina's house for the second annual Friendsgiving. Christina made the pies and turkey while the rest of us brought the pies. Joe signed us up for stuffing and rolls, and we were lucky to have Joe's mom make the stuffing while we were at our retreat. The food was all amazing from the green bean casserole to the mac and cheese! After a night of fun with friends, we headed home to get ready for the week. I packed because I was heading to Greenville the next morning and Joe caught up on work. It was such an amazing weekend filled with love, family, and friends and it made me realize how blessed I am leading up to Thanksgiving.
So much food :) |
